Free CNC Feeds & Speeds Calculator
Choose your CNC process, material and machine. Get a recommended cutter and starting feeds and speeds for wood and sheet materials.
What are you making?
Start with the job. We’ll help you choose the cutter and settings.
Free to use. Metric and imperial cutters.
What are you working with?
For wood and uncoated sheet materials. Metal, plastic and specialist composites need different data.
Total depth into the material, not depth per pass.
Helps us choose a cutter that fits. Leave blank for open outlines.
The cutter radius must fit this corner.
Your cutter. Your machine.
Choose the size you actually use. You don’t need a particular brand or a chip-load figure to get general starting guidance.
Settings for your cutter.
Tap a size to recalculate. Choose any other diameter in “Edit cutter & settings”.

Choose a standard size above or enter any diameter in mm.
Use the actual number of cutting edges.
General guidance is a starting point for suitable wood-routing cutters, not a guarantee for every tool. Exact maker data takes priority.
Optional tool checks & data guide
These published guides differ. The result names the guide used and labels any interpolation. AXYZ is also used where Sorotec has no material or size entry.
Unknown dimensions remain unverified; they won’t be guessed from a catalogue. Shank diameter can differ from cutting diameter.

How reliable are these settings?
General guides give a useful place to begin, not guaranteed production settings. Tool geometry, projection, machine rigidity, spindle torque and hold-down still matter. Test the cut and prefer your exact cutter maker’s data.
Where do the metric figures come from?
Sorotec publishes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm columns for solid wood and MDF. AXYZ / CNCShop supplies a separate routing guide for wood, plywood and MDF. These are kept as separate guides, not averaged together.
Between published sizes, the app labels linear interpolation as an estimate. It never converts a 6 mm cutter into a 6.35 mm cutter. Other sizes can use supplied maker data.
What about compression cutters?
Compression cutters need their own cutting data and first-pass depth beyond the upcut section. General upcut or downcut figures are not substituted. Select “Use my cutter maker’s data” for those tools.
