Unfinished or Primed Kitchen Doors: Which to Choose?
Frontly kitchen fronts are available unfinished or primed. Both options let you choose the final decorative colour; the difference is the preparation already completed before your fronts arrive.
What does unfinished mean?
Unfinished fronts need a suitable preparation and coating system before use. This option can suit a joiner, painter or confident DIY customer who wants to manage the whole finishing process. Plan the primer and topcoat together, following the coating manufacturer's instructions for the material and intended use.
Allow for preparation of faces, edges and detailed profiles, as well as drying and curing time. Check with your painter what they want to receive before selecting the option.
What does primed mean?
Primed fronts have a base coating for the next finishing stage. They are not supplied as a fully finished paint colour and should not be treated as the finished surface of the kitchen. They still need a compatible final paint system and the preparation specified for it.
If you already have a painter or fitter, agree the coating system with them before ordering. Contact Frontly if they need information about the supplied primer.
Compare the work, not just the door price
Unfinished can give you more control over the preparation stage, but it also leaves more work to arrange. Primed may suit a project where you want to start closer to the final painting stage. Compare materials, equipment, labour and finishing time alongside the price shown in the builder.
The finish choice applies to the fronts you order. Handles, fitting and the final paint colour are separate decisions. The inspirational kitchen images on the site show completed decorative schemes; they do not mean that the online doors arrive painted in those colours.
Pick the profile before planning the finish
Slab fronts have a plain face. Traditional Shaker, skinny Shaker and bevelled Shaker include more internal detail. Ask your painter to account for the selected profile when planning the work.
Confirm the measurements and drilling before applying a final finish, and follow the supplier's instructions for handling and storage. For specific questions, contact Frontly.
